Stories and popcorn go hand in hand

There’s a story behind our famous popcorn. Alfred Godfrey, Luke’s grandfather, was a British soldier during the Second World War. In those turbulent times, cinema became a much-needed escape, and Alfie developed a fondness for the popcorn served at theatres. Driven by a desire to recreate the magic of those moments, he began experimenting with his own popcorn recipes. Before long, his creations far surpassed the quality of what was offered at the local cinema.

We’ve seen it happen with coffee right? You can have it black, white, foamed, flavoured and a whole culture was built around that experience. I see the same opportunity here with popcorn. If you’re having coffee in the morning, you’re crunching popcorn while being entertained. It’s a perfect platform to get creative and explore flavour combinations.

We set out to establish popcorn as more than just a theatre snack. It’s the compliment to life’s inevitable drama, the good and the bad. It’s a nostoglic comfort in my life, and the identity of Godfrey’s showcases that. It’s more than popcorn, it’s a celebration of entertainment and the arts, paired with exceptional snacking.
